Commercial Vehicle Leaf-Spring Shackle Bracket

Category:

A leaf-spring shackle bracket is the chassis-mounted pivot that connects the rear or front eye of a leaf spring to the vehicle frame through a shackle link and bushings, allowing the spring to change length as it deflects and absorbing longitudinal and lateral axle loads. It is standard equipment on light, medium and heavy commercial vehicle suspensions, on both single and tandem axle arrangements. The bracket is sand or investment cast in ductile iron or cast steel because it is a highly loaded, irregularly shaped part with deep side flanges, bushing bosses and frame-mounting feet; casting delivers a one-piece, fatigue-resistant component with generous fillets at the flange-to-web transitions. CNC machining of the bushing bore, frame face and bolt holes then locates the axle within a few tenths of a millimetre of nominal track and wheelbase.

Key features

  • One-piece cast construction removes the weld heat-affected zone of fabricated brackets
  • Generous cast fillets at flange-to-web transitions improve fatigue life under reversing loads
  • Cored or drilled bushing bore with pressed-in rubber or polyurethane bush option
  • Machined frame face ensures full contact with the rail web and correct bolt clamp load
  • Interchangeable left-hand and right-hand versions from the same tooling family
  • Optional cast-in identification, part number and orientation marks

Applications

  • Front and rear leaf-spring suspension on light commercial vehicles
  • Tandem-axle heavy truck rear suspensions
  • Bus and coach chassis spring mounts
  • Pickup and light truck rear suspension upgrades
  • Special vehicle and defence logistics chassis

Quality and compliance

Shackle brackets are produced under IATF 16949 with PPAP Level 3 submission, including dimensional layout, capability study on the bushing bore and bolt pattern, and material certification to EN 10204 3.1. First article inspection is performed on every new tool and after any process change. Magnetic particle inspection covers the high-stress flange roots on 100 percent of parts or on an AQL basis agreed in the control plan, and ultrasonic testing is added for 42CrMo4 steel variants. CMM reports document bolt-hole true position against the frame datum scheme so the bracket installs without fixture correction on the assembly line, and salt-spray validation data is provided for the specified coating system.

FAQ

Do you make both fixed and adjustable shackle brackets?

Yes. We produce fixed-eye brackets, adjustable slipper brackets and shackle hanger brackets to customer drawings, including the matching shackle link and pin sets.

Can you match an existing OEM part number for the aftermarket?

We can reverse engineer from a sample part, produce a full dimensional report and manufacture to the original specification. Interchangeability is verified with a fixture that simulates frame and spring mounting.

What coating do you recommend for winter-road markets?

Cathodic electrocoat over a zinc phosphate pretreatment is the usual choice, typically validated to 480 or 720 hours neutral salt spray depending on the vehicle maker specification.

What is the expected fatigue validation?

Brackets are validated on a servo-hydraulic rig to the customer load spectrum, usually two million cycles at the design load, with coupons and full components tested from production-intent tooling.

What information do you need for a quotation?

A 3D model, a 2D drawing with tolerances and material specification, annual volume, target coating and the destination market. We return a feasibility study and tooling proposal within one week.
