Key features
- Heavy section water glass lost wax casting produces bases up to 650 kg as a single piece, avoiding the built-up plate and weld construction that distorts under mooring load.
- Generous cast radii at the post to base junction spread the bending moment from rope pull, reducing the peak stress that cracks sharp cornered fabrications.
- Moreover, The deck mounting face is CNC milled flat to 0.2 mm per metre, giving full contact bearing on the foundation and preventing fretting of the holding down bolts.
- Bolt pattern is laid out and drilled to +/- 0.5 mm to match your foundation template, so bases land on existing foundations without slotting or rework.
- Carbon steel WCB gives a weldable base for shipboard installation, while 316L and duplex 2205 options remove the coating maintenance burden on exposed weather decks.
- Cast-in lifting lugs, drain holes and grout relief openings are incorporated in the pattern, reducing yard labour during installation.
- Generally, Blast cleaning to Sa 2.5 with epoxy primer applied under controlled humidity, with dry film thickness verified and recorded for the coating guarantee.
Applications
- Additionally, Ship deck mooring bollards and bitts on cargo and work vessels.
- Quay, jetty and terminal mooring bollard foundations.
- Tug and barge deck mooring points.
- Lock, dry dock and slipway bollard installations.
- Offshore platform and FPSO mooring deck fittings.
- Ferry terminal and marina pontoon mooring hardware.
- Replacement bases for existing bollard refurbishment projects.
Quality & compliance
Ningbo Ruican supplies castings and machined parts to shipyards, port equipment makers and marine civil contractors; class society approvals such as ABS, DNV, LR, BV, RINA, ClassNK, KR and CCS are obtained by the customer or jointly on a project basis, and Ningbo Ruican does not hold class type-approval certificates as a company. Every deck bollard base casting ships with EN 10204 3.1 certification showing chemical analysis, mechanical properties and the heat treatment furnace chart, and EN 10204 3.2 certification can be arranged where a third party inspector or customer surveyor witnesses mechanical testing and final inspection. Still, heat lot traceability is documented from melt to finished casting, and non-destructive examination options include 100 percent ultrasonic testing of the post boss and flange sections, magnetic particle inspection of all machined surfaces and radii, and hardness verification to ASTM E18.
Dimensional reporting covers overall footprint, height, mounting face flatness, bolt pattern position and hole diameter, while coating inspection records surface preparation grade, ambient conditions and measured dry film thickness. FAQ
Q1. What size deck bollard base castings can you produce?
Single piece castings from 40 kg up to 650 kg are routine using the water glass lost wax process, covering most shipboard and quayside bases. For larger quay bollards we design a two piece base with a machined bolted or welded joint and provide the detailed fabrication drawing for approval before tooling begins.
Q2. Carbon steel or stainless for a bollard base?
ASTM A216 WCB with blast cleaning and epoxy primer is the economical choice for painted ship decks and sheltered quays. Generally, it welds readily to steel foundations. On exposed weather decks, in splash zones or where coating maintenance is difficult, 316L (ASTM A351 CF3M) or duplex 2205 removes the corrosion risk and recurring repainting cost.
Q3. Can you machine the mounting face and bolt pattern?
Yes. We CNC mill the deck mounting face flat to 0.2 mm per metre and drill the bolt pattern to +/- 0.5 mm against your foundation template. We also machine the post seat so the bollard post sits square. Additionally, we can supply the base pre-assembled with the post where the project needs a complete unit.
Q4. What corrosion protection do you supply?
Standard protection is blast cleaning to Sa 2.5 followed by epoxy primer at the specified dry film thickness. In general, hot dip galvanising, polyurethane topcoat systems and bituminous coating for buried or embedded bases are all available. Also, surface preparation grade, ambient conditions and measured dry film thickness are recorded with the inspection documents.
Casting process
Q5. Do you supply foundation drawings and load calculations?
We supply a general arrangement drawing showing footprint, bolt pattern, bolt grade and tightening torque, plus casting weight and centre of gravity for lifting planning. We can run finite element analysis of the base under your specified bollard pull, but foundation design stays with the customer or their naval architect.
Q6. What is the lead time and how are bases packed for export?
Tooling and first article approval take five to seven weeks, with production batches following in four to six weeks depending on quantity, heat treatment and coating. Also, castings are palletised or crated on steel stillages with machined faces protected. In addition, we consolidate container or break bulk shipments with full export documentation and your part number marking.
