Key features

  • Carburised 42CrMo gives a hard wear surface over a tough core, which suits the abrasive and shock loading on a trencher chain.
  • Tooth pocket machined to the tooth shank tolerance so retention is reliable and tooth change stays quick on site.
  • Hardfacing-ready faces supplied clean and pre-machined for customers applying their own wear overlay.
  • Chain mounting face machined flat so the block welds without gaps and the cutting geometry stays accurate.
  • Consistent block-to-block geometry because all parts come from the same tooling and the same heat lot per batch.
  • Compact sections cast sound in the lost wax process, avoiding the internal defects common in sand cast wear blocks.

Applications

  • Chain trenchers for pipeline, cable and drainage installation.
  • Rock wheel and chain saw cutting attachments on compact utility trenchers.
  • Trenching machines used in road construction and municipal utility work.
  • Foundation and diaphragm wall trenching equipment.
  • Surface mining and soft rock cutting chains.
  • Replacement holder blocks for trencher chain service and repair kits.

Quality and compliance

Ningbo Ruican works to IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 and supplies each trencher tooth holder block batch with an
EN 10204 3.1 material certificate referenced to the heat lot. PPAP and FAIR packages are prepared on request for
OEM programmes. Heat treatment is verified by hardness testing on the case and the core plus case depth
measurement on a sectioned sample from the same lot, and Charpy impact testing is carried out where the drawing
specifies minimum absorbed energy. Magnetic particle inspection is performed on all machined surfaces after final
machining, and ultrasonic testing is applied on thicker block designs where internal soundness cannot be
confirmed by surface methods alone. Heat lot traceability covers melt, heat treatment, machining and packing.

FAQs

What heat treatment do you recommend for tooth holder blocks?

Carburising followed by quench and temper is the usual choice for 42CrMo and low-alloy wear steel because it gives
a hard case for abrasion and a tough core for shock. Where impact dominates and wear is moderate, a straight
quench and temper treatment to the specified hardness range is more economical.

Can you machine the pocket to fit an existing tooth system?

Yes. We machine the pocket to the tooth shank drawing or to a measured sample, controlling the pocket width,
depth and included angle so the tooth seats correctly and the retainer engages fully.

Do you supply hardfaced blocks?

We supply blocks hardfacing-ready with the wear face pre-machined and cleaned, and overlay welding can be included
in the scope to your consumable and thickness specification.

How consistent is the block geometry across a chain set?

All blocks in a batch are cast from the same tooling and heat treated in the same load, then machined on the same
fixture. Pocket position and mounting face flatness are checked on the coordinate measuring machine and reported.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Development samples start at about 50 pieces, and production orders are quoted against annual volume with
scheduled release or call-off delivery.

Can you deliver to a chain pitch specification?

Yes. Tell us the chain pitch and the block spacing and we will confirm the pocket position tolerance relative to
the chain mounting face in the tooling design review.
