Key features
- Open flow windows and tapered ribs are cast to shape, giving a high open area with low pressure drop across the strainer.
- Smooth as-cast surfaces reduce debris adhesion and make the basket faster to clean during routine bilge maintenance.
- Reinforced top flange and bottom ring resist collapse when the basket clogs and differential pressure rises.
- 316L low carbon chemistry prevents sensitisation at welded mesh joints and in the bilge’s chloride environment.
- Machined seat and thread guarantee a repeatable seal in the strainer housing, preventing unfiltered bypass.
- Standard sizes from DN25 to DN300, with custom apertures from 0.5 mm to 6 mm matched to your pump suction duty.
- Baskets can be supplied bare or fully assembled with welded mesh, lifting handle and drain plug.
Applications
- Engine room bilge suction lines on commercial vessels and workboats
- Ballast water and cargo hold stripping strainer housings
- Fire main and seawater cooling suction strainers
- Sewage and grey water treatment loop strainers
- Offshore platform drain and deck water collection systems
- Fish hold and deck washdown recirculation strainers
Quality and compliance
Bilge strainer basket frames are cast and machined under an IATF 16949 certified system, with melt-to-part traceability and EN 10204 3.1 certificates issued for every heat. Where the strainer sits in a class-controlled bilge system, third-party inspection and witness by IACS member societies such as DNV, ABS, LR, BV, CCS or RINA can be arranged on request.
FAQ
Q1. Can you match an existing strainer basket from a specific manufacturer?
Yes. Send the used basket or a dimensional drawing and we will reproduce the geometry, mesh specification and mounting detail, usually improving the rib design in the process.
Q2. What mesh apertures do you offer?
We regularly produce apertures from 0.5 mm to 6 mm in woven or perforated sheet, in 316L to match the frame. The aperture is verified with calibrated gauges and recorded in the inspection report.
Q3. Will the basket survive a clogged condition?
The frame is designed with reinforced top flange, bottom ring and radial ribs. We can validate a specific collapse or differential pressure rating by physical test before production release.
Q4. Do you supply the complete strainer assembly?
We supply the cast frame as standard and can add the welded mesh, handle, drain plug and housing cover as a complete assembly, pressure tested before shipment.
Q5. How is corrosion resistance verified?
Material is verified by spectrographic analysis and reported on the EN 10204 3.1 certificate. Finished baskets are pickled and passivated per ASTM A967, with optional salt spray testing to ASTM B117.
Q6. What is the usual order quantity?
Prototype quantities from one piece upward are accepted for samples. Production runs normally start at 50 pieces, with lower unit cost at 200 pieces and above.
