It converts the kinetic energy of the rotating impeller into pressure energy, directs the flow from suction to discharge, and must simultaneously resist corrosion, erosion, and cavitation damage. The internal volute profile must be dimensionally precise — even small deviations from the theoretical curve reduce pump efficiency, increase NPSH requirements, and accelerate wear.
