Key features
- Thin wall wafer profile cast to near-net shape, keeping face-to-face dimension within the customer’s envelope.
- Hinge pin bores machined on both sides in one setup, ensuring both plates pivot on a common axis.
- Moreover, Seat ring bore or integral seat face machined to the shutoff geometry specified by the customer’s design.
- Smooth investment cast flow passage with low turbulence, reducing water hammer and pressure loss.
- Integrally cast hinge lugs and stop shoulders, removing secondary welding and its inspection burden.
- Duplex and super duplex options offering higher strength to reduce wall thickness and overall weight.
- Generally, Consistent bore geometry between production lots, supporting interchangeable plate and seat components.
Applications
- Pump discharge lines in water, wastewater and HVAC circulating systems.
- Compressor and blower discharge protection in process plants.
- Fire protection sprinkler and deluge system risers where low pressure loss matters.
- Additionally, Chemical and petrochemical transfer lines in CF3M or duplex grades.
- Desalination and seawater intake systems in super duplex or Monel.
- Marine engine cooling and bilge systems with corrosion resistant alloys.
Quality & compliance
All wafer check valve bodies are manufactured under an IATF 16949 certified quality system with defined control plans, first article inspection and statistical monitoring of hinge pin bore alignment, seat bore diameter and face-to-face dimension. EN 10204 3.1 material certification is standard, with 3.2 certification available through a customer nominated or independent third party inspector. Pressure boundary wall thickness and design margins are produced to the customer’s ASME B16.34 design basis, and hydrostatic shell testing along with seat leakage testing is performed under the customer’s or a third party’s written procedure, with reports retained by serial and heat lot.
Non-destructive examination choices include radiographic testing of the thin wall sections and hinge lugs, ultrasonic thickness verification, magnetic particle inspection per ASTM E709 and dye penetrant inspection per ASTM E165. Positive material identification is performed on every alloy part, and full heat lot traceability links melt record, heat treatment chart, NDT results and dimensional report to each finished body. Ningbo Ruican supplies to the customer’s specification with documented objective evidence and does not hold or claim API, CE or PED certification as a company certificate.
FAQ
Q1. How thin can you cast the wafer body wall?
Our silica sol process routinely holds thin sections that sand casting struggles with, but the practical minimum depends on the bore size, pressure class and alloy. Share your drawing and we will run a solidification simulation and confirm the achievable wall with supporting NDT.
Q2. Do you machine the hinge pin bores on both sides in alignment?
Yes. Both bores are machined in a single setup on a 4-axis machine using cast reference datums, so the two plates share one pivot axis. Coaxiality results appear on the CMM report for every batch.
Q3. Can you supply the body with the seat ring installed?
We supply the machined body, and we can machine the seat pocket and supply the seat ring loose or fitted to your procedure. Final assembly and testing generally remain on your line to protect your product liability documentation.
Q4. Which alloy suits seawater service?
ASTM A995 5A super duplex is usually the best balance of strength and pitting resistance for seawater, with Monel available for the most aggressive conditions. Moreover, we will follow the grade specified on your drawing.
Q5. What NDT do you recommend for thin wall wafer castings?
Radiographic testing of the hinge lug and body wall transition areas plus dye penetrant on machined surfaces is a common package. We can also add ultrasonic thickness mapping and hydrostatic testing to your written procedure.
Q6. Can you work from a sample part rather than a drawing?
Yes. Send a sample and we will 3D scan it, produce a reverse engineered drawing for your approval, then build tooling. Generally, this route is common for customers replacing an imported valve body design.
