Key features

  • Capsule chamber machined to controlled depth and surface finish so the thermostatic element seats squarely and repeats its set point.
  • Sealing face and thread machined in one setup, protecting the leak path between the housing and the trap body.
  • Small, complex geometry cast near net shape, reducing material removal and cycle time on high volume runs.
  • 17-4PH and AISI 420 options deliver higher strength and wear resistance at the seat and thread.
  • Moreover, Clean internal chamber free of inclusions and residual shell, critical for capsule movement and response time.
  • Consistent wall thickness around the chamber, promoting even heat transfer and predictable actuation temperature.
  • Repeatable dimensional results across large batches, supporting automated capsule loading on the customer’s line.

Applications

  • Thermostatic steam traps on main steam distribution and tracing lines.
  • Steam main drip legs and tracer line condensate removal points.
  • Radiator and heat exchanger condensate drainage in building services.
  • Generally, Food, beverage and pharmaceutical clean steam systems in CF3M or electropolished finish.
  • Chemical plant steam tracing with corrosive external atmospheres, in CF8M or duplex.
  • Additionally, Compressed air and process gas condensate drains using the same housing platform.

Quality & compliance

Every thermostatic element housing is produced within an IATF 16949 certified quality system using control plans, first article inspection and statistical monitoring of the capsule chamber depth, seat taper and thread gauge results. Material certification is issued to EN 10204 3.1, with 3.2 certification available through a customer nominated or independent third party inspector. Pressure boundary wall thickness and design margins follow the customer’s ASME B16.34 design basis, and hydrostatic testing, seat leakage testing or helium leak testing is performed to the customer’s or a third party’s written procedure with reports indexed to the production lot.

Non-destructive examination includes dye penetrant inspection per ASTM E165 on all stainless and duplex parts, magnetic particle inspection per ASTM E709 on ferromagnetic grades, radiographic testing of the chamber wall where specified, and ultrasonic survey for thicker sections. Positive material identification by XRF verifies every alloy heat, and full heat lot traceability connects each housing to melt record, heat treatment chart including age hardening parameters, NDT results and dimensional data. Ningbo Ruican supplies strictly to the customer’s specification with documented objective evidence, and does not claim API, CE or PED certification as a company certificate.

FAQ

Q1. Can you hold the capsule chamber depth tightly enough for consistent set points?
Yes. We machine the chamber in a dedicated final operation with a controlled depth tolerance, and we record depth, seat taper and surface finish on the CMM report so you can correlate them with your calibration data.

Q2. Do you supply 17-4PH housings and to which condition?
We cast and machine 17-4PH and age harden to the condition you specify, typically H900, H1025, H1075 or H1150. Moreover, each batch ships with the heat treatment chart and hardness results against your required range.

Q3. Can you match an existing thermostatic element housing from a sample?
Yes. We regularly reverse engineer from a sample using 3D scanning, produce a drawing for approval, and then build tooling. This is a common route when an imported trap design is being localized.

Q4. What leak testing can you provide?
Hydrostatic shell testing, seat leakage testing and helium leak testing can all be performed to your written procedure or that of your nominated third party, with certified reports and defined acceptance criteria.

Q5. How do you prevent shell residue in the small internal chamber?
We control shell removal, use dedicated blasting and pickling steps, and inspect the chamber visually and by dye penetrant. Parts are cleaned and dried before packing, and sealed packaging can be supplied on request.

Q6. What volumes can you support?
We handle prototype runs from a few pieces up to high volume repeat production, using multi-cavity tooling where the geometry allows. Capacity planning and buffer stock agreements can be discussed for annual volume programs.
