Laparoscopic Trocar Valve Housing Body

The laparoscopic trocar valve housing body is the sealing chamber that sits at the top of a trocar cannula. It carries the duckbill or septum seal, the insufflation stopcock port and the instrument entry bore, and it has to hold pneumoperitoneum while instruments are exchanged repeatedly through the same opening. Fab-welded housings leak at the stopcock boss weld and distort the seal seat, which shows up as pressure loss mid-procedure. Solid-machined housings are sound but slow and wasteful on the internal chamber. A one-piece investment casting forms the chamber, the stopcock boss and the latch window in a single body, then machines the seal seat and stopcock thread after heat treatment so the seal stays square to the instrument axis.

Key features

  • Cored internal seal chamber removes the deep boring operation and leaves no tool witness mark where tissue and fluid can collect.
  • Seal seat machined square to the instrument axis within 0.03 mm, eliminating the mid-procedure pressure loss caused by tilted seal seats in welded housings.
  • Stopcock boss cast integral with the wall, removing the weld joint that is the most common leak point on fab-built trocar valve bodies.
  • 17-4PH H900 latch components deliver 38-42 HRC at the cannula locking faces, resisting the wear that loosens the lock after repeated instrument exchanges.
  • Electropolished chamber and instrument bore at Ra 0.4 um reduce seal drag, so instruments pass with less friction and less seal roll-over.
  • Uniform wall thickness across the chamber-to-boss transition prevents sink and porosity, confirmed by X-ray sampling on each production lot.
  • Pressure decay or leak testing performed to the customer’s method, with results attached to the lot documentation.

Applications

  • Reusable and single-use laparoscopic trocar valve housings for general and bariatric surgery.
  • Thoracoscopic and pleural access port valve bodies.
  • Paediatric and mini-laparoscopy reduced-diameter trocar housings.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery instrument access port bodies.
  • Endoscopic and hysteroscopic insufflation valve housings.
  • Veterinary laparoscopy trocar bodies built on scaled housing geometry.

Quality & compliance

Ningbo Ruican is not an ISO 13485 contract manufacturer. It supplies cast and CNC-machined components in 17-4PH (H900/H1025), AISI 420 and AISI 316L together with project-level documentation under the customer’s Quality Agreement, including material traceability and ISO 10993-5 biocompatibility test support. Each release ships with EN 10204 3.1 material certification, heat lot records, furnace charts from solution treatment and aging on the 17-4PH components, a hardness survey, dimensional reports and leak test evidence generated to the method the customer specifies. Any process or material change is routed through the customer’s change control procedure before implementation.

FAQ

Can you develop the housing from a sample trocar rather than a drawing?

Yes. Send a sample housing or a complete trocar, and we reverse scan it, rebuild the chamber and port geometry as a 3D model, and return that model with a DFM review covering coring, gating and machining allowance. We quote after you confirm the rebuilt model matches the interface and seal stack you use.

What is the minimum order for a new housing design?

We start from prototype and pilot quantities on a single tooling set and add cavities once your annual volume supports it. Because the chamber is cored rather than machined, piece price falls quickly with volume, and we can hold agreed safety stock against a released schedule.

What documentation ships with production lots?

Production lots ship with EN 10204 3.1 material certification, heat lot records, furnace charts, a hardness survey, dimensional reports at the agreed sampling rate and leak or pressure decay test results. First article packages add a full ballooned dimensional report and photographs to your template.

Can you hold H900 on the 17-4PH latch components?

Yes. Latch and locking components are aged to H900 in a calibrated furnace with load thermocouples, the chart is filed against the heat lot, and hardness is surveyed on the locking faces. H900 normally reads 38-42 HRC; results outside the window are quarantined and dispositioned through your process.

Do you passivate or electropolish the housing?

Passivation per ASTM A967 is standard, and electropolishing to Ra 0.4 um is applied to the chamber and instrument bore where specified. Both are done after final machining, and any laser marking follows finishing so it survives repeated sterilization cycles.
