Macerator Cutting Rotor Body

The macerator cutting rotor body is the rotating element that shears solids and slurries against a stationary cutting screen inside rotary lobe pumps, inline macerators and separator inlets. Because it runs at close clearance in abrasive, fibrous media, any imbalance, porosity or soft cutting edge produces rapid wear, vibration and seal failure. Ningbo Ruican investment casts the rotor body in stainless or duplex steel and machines the hub bore, rotor profile and cutting edge geometry in-house, delivering a near-net-shape casting that balances cleanly and holds clearance through long service intervals.

Scope and options

Key features

  • Near-net-shape casting of the helical cutting profile reduces machining time and tool cost.
  • Through-hardening or precipitation hardening heat treatment to the hardness your print specifies.
  • Dynamic balancing to ISO 1940 G6.3 or better to protect bearings and mechanical seals.
  • Moreover, Duplex 2205 option resists chloride pitting in seawater and wastewater duty.
  • Generally, Cast-in balance pockets and weight correction zones designed into the pattern.
  • Full profile inspection on CMM against the original rotor geometry before release.

Applications

  • Rotary lobe pumps handling sludge, slurry and fibrous industrial effluent
  • Inline macerators and grinders on municipal wastewater treatment inlets
  • Separator and decanter feed pumps in food and beverage processing
  • Marine sewage and greywater macerator pump units
  • Biogas plant substrate maceration and transfer pumps
  • Pulp and paper stock preparation and rejects handling pumps

Quality & compliance

Each macerator cutting rotor body is delivered with EN 10204 3.1 material certification and heat treatment records traceable to the casting lot. Pressure-retaining sections are hydrostatically tested to the drawing requirement, and dye penetrant or magnetic particle inspection of the cutting edges and hub is available on request. We issue dimensional reports covering the rotor profile, hub bore and balance data for first article submission and for every production lot. The IATF 16949 certified system at Ningbo Ruican supports PPAP and FAI packages, and we can supply sample rotors for field trials before a program is released to serial production.

FAQ

Which stainless grade gives the longest cutting edge life?

For abrasive sludge and fibrous wastewater we usually recommend 17-4PH hardened to the specified HRC range, which holds an edge much longer than annealed CF8M. For chloride bearing or seawater duty, duplex 2205 gives better corrosion resistance at slightly lower achievable hardness. Moreover, we follow your drawing or advise on the trade-off.

Can you match an existing rotary lobe pump rotor geometry?

Yes. Send a sample part or a 3D model and we will reverse engineer the profile, confirm it against your pump clearance drawing, and produce a casting and machining process that reproduces the geometry. We also supply rotors to customer drawings directly without any reverse engineering work.

Do you balance the rotor before shipment?

Also, every rotor is dynamically balanced to ISO 1940 G6.3 as standard, with G2.5 available for high speed units. Correction is made in the designated weight pockets rather than by grinding the cutting profile, so the shear geometry stays intact. Additionally, a balance report is included with each shipment.

How do you handle abrasive wear on the rotor tips?

Beyond material and hardness selection, we can supply the rotor with hardfacing or a wear resistant overlay on the tip lands where the drawing permits it. We also control the casting section thickness so the tip lands machine solid, avoiding the micro-porosity that accelerates wear in service.

What volumes can you support for an aftermarket rotor program?

We run both low volume aftermarket releases and serial OEM programs. Typical first releases start around 50 pieces, with repeat orders from 10 pieces when tooling and fixtures are retained. In general, blanket orders with scheduled releases help secure stable pricing and shorter lead times.
