Screw conveyor end bearing housing

The end bearing housing closes the trough of a screw conveyor, supports the conveyor shaft bearing and provides the sealing arrangement that keeps product out of the bearing and lubricant out of the product. It has to stay aligned with the shaft while the trough expands, sees fine abrasive dust on every surface and often needs to be dismantled quickly in a plant with limited access. We cast the housing rather than fabricate it because the bearing pocket, seal bore, trough flange and bolt bosses intersect at awkward angles that are far cheaper to integrate into a casting, then machine those features to a shared datum so the bearing and shaft stay aligned.

Key features

  • Bearing pocket, seal bore and shaft clearance machined from one clamping so the shaft runs concentric with the bearing and the seal sits square on the shaft.
  • Split-line option lets maintenance staff replace the bearing without pulling the conveyor shaft, saving hours on every service event.
  • Cast-in bosses and ribs stiffen the flange so the housing does not distort when the trough bolts are torqued down.
  • Ductile iron QT450-10 absorbs the vibration of long conveyor runs better than fabricated steel housings and machines cleanly.
  • Seal arrangements prepared for lip seals, packed glands or air-purged seals according to your specification.
  • Oil or grease ports drilled, deburred and plugged before shipment so no swarf enters the bearing pocket.

Applications

  • Trough and tubular screw conveyors in bulk material handling plants.
  • Hanger and end bearings for cement, fly ash and lime conveyors.
  • Grain, feed and flour screw conveyors in agriculture and food processing.
  • Wood chip, biomass and waste handling conveyors.
  • OEM screw conveyor assemblies and aftermarket spare programmes.

Quality and compliance

All end bearing housings are produced within the IATF 16949 certified quality system operated by Ningbo Ruican, with foundry parameters, heat treatment batches and inspection results recorded against each part number. First article inspection verifies the relationship between bearing pocket, seal bore and shaft clearance with a CMM report, and PPAP level 3 documentation is submitted for series orders. Each delivery is supported by an EN 10204 3.1 certificate giving chemical analysis and mechanical properties for the heat used, hardness test reports taken on the actual casting, and NDT reports covering penetrant or magnetic particle examination of the machined sealing faces. Where the drawing specifies pressure testing of lubrication galleries, the test record is supplied with the part.

FAQ

Can you machine the housing for our preferred seal arrangement?

Yes. We machine for lip seals, packed glands, felt seals or air-purged arrangements, working to your seal supplier drawing so the seal seats correctly on its bore and shaft diameter.

Do you offer split housings for easier maintenance?

We do. Two-piece housings are cast with a machined split line and dowelled cap, so bearings can be replaced without removing the conveyor shaft. Tell us the split line orientation you need.

Which material suits abrasive cement dust?

Ductile iron QT450-10 handles this duty well and machines to a good seal surface finish. For higher loads or where the housing is welded into the trough structure, 42CrMo4 gives the required strength and weldability.

How do you keep swarf out of the bearing pocket?

Cleaning and deburring follow machining, then every port is plugged and the pocket is inspected before packing. Export packing uses sealed crates so contamination cannot enter during transit.

Can you supply the housing complete with bearing and seals?

Yes, many customers take the fully assembled unit. We fit the bearing and seals you specify, set the shaft clearance to your requirement and ship the assembly ready to bolt on.
