Key features
- Hub bore and locking element taper machined concentric with the pulley axis so the shaft fit stays true under belt tension.
- 42CrMo quenched and tempered gives the strength needed for high tension drive pulleys and long centre conveyors.
- Water glass lost wax route available for larger hubs where cost matters more than tight as-cast tolerance.
- Weld preparation profile cast and machined to the customer weld procedure for drum shell assembly.
- Keyway, spline or shrink disc seat produced to the specified fit class for the selected locking element.
- Balanced section design with uniform wall thickness to limit distortion during heat treatment.
Applications
- Drive, tail, bend and take-up pulleys on belt conveyors in mining plant.
- Conveyor pulleys for bulk material handling in ports, stockyards and terminals.
- Overland and long distance conveyor systems in cement and power plants.
- Screening plant and crusher discharge conveyors in aggregate quarries.
- Underground mining and tunnelling conveyor drives.
- Spare hubs for pulley rebuild and pulley refurbishment programmes.
Quality and compliance
Ningbo Ruican holds IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 certification and issues an EN 10204 3.1 material certificate with
every conveyor pulley end hub, identified to a single heat lot. PPAP and FAIR documentation is prepared on request.
Each hub is hardness tested after quench and temper, Charpy impact tested at the specified temperature, and
ultrasonically examined in the hub-to-rim transition and bore wall where the highest stress occurs. Magnetic
particle inspection covers the machined surfaces and weld preparation after final machining. Heat lot
traceability is kept from melt and heat treatment through to the packing list, and dimensional reports are
released against the approved drawing with runout and concentricity results included.
FAQs
Which casting process do you use for a pulley end hub?
We use silica sol lost wax where the drawing calls for CT4 to CT6 as-cast accuracy and a fine surface, which is
typical for smaller hubs with tight bore allowances. For larger hubs where the finished surfaces are fully
machined anyway, water glass lost wax at CT6 to CT8 gives a lower part cost with the same final machined accuracy.
Can you machine the bore to a shrink disc or keyless locking element fit?
Yes. We regularly machine bores for shrink discs, taper lock bushes and keyless locking assemblies, holding the
diameter tolerance and surface finish stated on the locking element specification.
Do you supply hubs with the weld preparation ready for the drum shell?
We can cast and machine the weld preparation to your weld procedure specification, including the root face, bevel
angle and land, so the hub goes straight to the pulley welding fixture.
What testing do you run on drive pulley hubs?
Drive pulley hubs are hardness tested, Charpy impact tested, ultrasonically tested in the bore wall and hub
transition, and magnetic particle inspected after machining. Customers can specify a higher testing level in the
drawing.
Can you cast in a customer specified steel grade?
Yes. We produce to Chinese, European, American and Japanese grade specifications, and we confirm the equivalent
chemistry and mechanical properties in writing before tooling starts.
What is the largest hub you can cast?
We routinely cast end hubs up to about 35 kg. Send the drawing and we will confirm whether the part suits the
silica sol or water glass route and advise on the tooling layout.
