Key features
- One-piece investment cast body removes the weld seams and heat affected zones of fabricated shackle assemblies, giving continuous grain flow through the crown and pin eyes.
- Super duplex 2507 delivers a pitting resistance equivalent number above 40, resisting chloride pitting and crevice corrosion in splash zone and warm seawater service.
- Duplex 2205 option gives around twice the 0.2 percent proof strength of 316L, allowing slimmer sections and weight saving on the same rated load.
- Near-net shape casting holds the pin eye, jaw throat and swivel bore concentric within 0.05 mm of true position after finish machining, so the body rotates freely under load instead of binding.
- Machined bearing faces and swivel bore are finished on CNC turning centres from the same datum, keeping face runout within 0.03 mm and avoiding eccentric wear on the pin.
- Optional proof load testing to two times working load limit, with magnetic particle and dye penetrant examination of the crown and jaw roots before release.
- Full traceability from melt to finished part, with the heat number stamped on the body and cross referenced to the material certificate and inspection record.
Applications
- Offshore mooring systems and anchor handling tugs working stud link chain.
- Moreover, Offshore support vessels, platform supply vessels and crew transfer vessels.
- Aquaculture cage and longline moorings in high fouling waters.
- Dredgers, barges and workboats operating bow anchor deployments.
- Fishing vessel and trawler ground tackle.
- Buoy moorings, wave energy converters and floating solar anchoring legs.
- Harbour, terminal and emergency tow out anchor stowage gear.
Quality & compliance
Ningbo Ruican supplies castings and machined parts to shipyards, anchor and chain manufacturers and offshore equipment makers; class society approvals such as ABS, DNV, LR, BV, RINA, ClassNK, KR and CCS are obtained by the customer or jointly on a project basis, and Ningbo Ruican does not hold class type-approval certificates as a company. Every anchor swivel shackle body ships with EN 10204 3.1 material certification as standard, with EN 10204 3.2 available where third party or customer witness is required, plus documented heat lot traceability from the melt shop through heat treatment and machining.
Non-destructive examination options include dye penetrant, magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing to customer specified acceptance levels, and each production lot is covered by a dimensional report from CMM and calibrated hand gauges, with ferrite measurement and PMI alloy verification on duplex grades. FAQ
Q1. Which alloy should I choose for an anchor swivel shackle body in seawater?
Duplex 2205 (ASTM A995 4A) suits most coastal and offshore anchor gear, giving roughly double the 0.2 percent proof strength of 316L at moderate cost. Super duplex 2507 (ASTM A995 5A) is the better choice for permanent immersion in warm water or splash zone service. We review working load, water temperature and inspection interval before recommending a grade.
Q2. Can you cast to our drawing or reverse engineer an existing sample?
Yes. We work from 2D drawings, 3D models or a physical sample. For sample based projects we 3D scan the part, verify alloy by PMI and confirm section thickness, then issue a manufacturing drawing for approval before tooling. Moreover, pattern tooling is made in house, which keeps first article lead times short.
Q3. Do you supply class approved anchor swivel shackles?
We supply the cast, machined and proof load tested shackle body with full documentation. Class approvals including ABS, DNV, LR, BV, RINA, ClassNK, KR and CCS are obtained by the customer or jointly on a project basis, and we support that with heat lot traceability and third party witness testing under EN 10204 3.2.
Q4. What tolerances can you hold on the pin eye and swivel bore?
As cast we work to ISO 8062 CT7, with CT6 achievable on critical areas. The pin eye and swivel bore are finish machined to +/- 0.02 mm, with bore concentricity within 0.05 mm and face runout within 0.03 mm. Generally, untoleranced dimensions follow ISO 2768-m, and each batch ships with a CMM report.
Inspection and documentation
Q5. Can you proof load test and certify each shackle body?
We proof load test to two times the working load limit, then magnetic particle or dye penetrant inspect the crown and jaw roots. Certificates list serial number, heat number, applied load and holding time. Additionally, hardness is verified to ASTM E18 and recorded against the heat lot.
Q6. What are typical lead times and order quantities?
Tooling and first article samples take four to six weeks from drawing approval, with production batches following in three to five weeks depending on quantity and heat treatment. In general, we support single piece prototypes through to serial production, with palletised export packing and consolidated sea freight.
