Apron feeder chain roller body

The roller body is the running wheel of an apron feeder chain: it rolls along the carrying track while supporting the weight of the pans and the full column of material resting on them. It therefore sees rolling contact fatigue on the tread, bending on the rim and a dusty, often hot and abrasive environment on every exposed surface. We cast rather than fabricate the body because the tread band, the rim and the bush seat need different metallurgical behaviour in one part, and machining then delivers the tread diameter, the bore and the sealing faces within the tolerances the track geometry demands. Rolling surfaces finished to a fine Ra extend both roller and track life.

Key features

  • Tread, bore and seal recesses machined in one clamping so tread runout and bush seat concentricity stay inside the window that keeps the chain tracking straight.
  • Optional induction hardening of the tread gives a hard wear surface over a tough core for long track life.
  • Cast-in material distribution lets the rim carry contact stress while the web stays light, reducing chain drive power demand.
  • Bush or bearing seats machined to H7 with controlled surface finish for predictable press fits and serviceable replacement.
  • Matched batches supplied with identical tread diameter so existing track wear patterns are not disturbed during partial replacement.
  • Oil or grease lubrication passages drilled and deburred to drawing before assembly.

Applications

  • Apron feeders feeding primary jaw and gyratory crushers in quarry and mining circuits.
  • Heavy pan conveyors under hoppers and stockpile reclaim tunnels.
  • Cement and steel plant pan feeders handling hot clinker, sinter and scrap.
  • Reclaim and transfer conveyors in ports and bulk terminals.
  • Spare roller programmes for installed apron feeder fleets.

Quality and compliance

Ningbo Ruican manufactures apron feeder roller bodies under an IATF 16949 certified system, applying the same process control discipline used for automotive driveline components to every heat and every machining batch. Each new part number goes through first article inspection with complete dimensional layout and material verification, followed by a PPAP level 3 submission for series supply. Shipments carry EN 10204 3.1 certificates with ladle chemistry and mechanical test results, hardness reports recorded on the actual roller including a tread hardness traverse, and NDT reports covering penetrant, magnetic particle or ultrasonic examination of critical zones. Heat treatment furnace charts complete the traceability chain from raw material to finished part.

FAQ

Can you match the roller dimensions of an existing apron feeder?

Yes. Send a worn sample or a dimension sheet and we reverse engineer the tread diameter, bore, width and seal recess arrangement, then issue a drawing for approval before any tooling is cut.

Should I specify an induction hardened tread?

Induction hardening pays off where the track is steel, the load is high and the rollers run continuously. The hardened tread resists contact fatigue while the untreated core absorbs shock from lump material.

Do you supply the complete roller with bush, pin and seals?

We manufacture the roller body and can source or machine bushes and pins, delivering the roller as a finished assembled unit or as a machined body for you to assemble, whichever your supply model prefers.

What hardness do you recommend for the rolling surface?

For 42CrMo4 we normally quench and temper to 260–320 HB for the whole body, then induction harden only the tread band to 45–55 HRC where the drawing calls for it. Final choice depends on your track material and load.

How are the rollers protected for export?

Tread and bore are coated with rust preventive, then each roller is sleeved and packed in a plywood crate with spacers to prevent tread-to-tread contact damage during transit.
